MY OWN EVEREST
1 x 52’

April 2003 is the 50th Anniversary of the first ascent of Mount Everest
Fifteen People from "Kfar-Tikva" (village of Hope) a place where mentally retarded adults with special needs live, go on a journey to the Base Camp of the most challenging mountain in the world, the Himalayas. Would they succeed in proving that special people can conquer peaks and succeed like everyone else, if they are only given a chance?
Like every good story, this journey begins with a dream and becomes a sweeping drama about what is normal, what is not and what lies in between. The film portrays a journey of special people, autists and persons with Downs Syndrome in their attempt to reach the base camp of Mount Everest.
Frightening, dangerous, perhaps just unnecessary?
The film provides a glimpse into the details of the world of the other, the person whom we have excluded from our society, who both scares and fascinates us. The person whose thoughts we will never know, but who is full of spontaneous warmth and love. Warmth that melts the boundaries and bridges the mental gap between the leader and the led.
The journey is filled with experiences and encounters and is filtered through the wide open, innocent and liberated eyes of those suspended in time.
