UNDERWATER DESTINATIONS 6 X 24’ “Diving is one of the fastest growing recreational sports in the world” - PADI diver Statistics. Throughout the world there is a vast diversity of diving, from
crystal clear warm water with awe inspiring tropical reefs to cold water filled with large pelagic marine life. Fish of all shapes and sizes, from action packed and heart pounding
shark encounters to the extremely rare and amazing Electric Ray. All over the world you will find fantastic places to explore, dive or even learn to dive. Underwater Destinations is a format that not only combines
travel with diving. It promotes the broader issues surrounding the sport as well as travel and environmental issues. Each programme provides information on dive education, equipment, fish profiles, marine awareness,
different locations, types of dive specialties and activities for non-divers to offer something for the whole family. “Divers around the world have been waiting for a programme like this” Craig Johnson PADI Instructor and
owner of Aquanaughts Diving.
Programme 1. Bali – Indonesia. The tropical water around Bali offers over 3,000 species of marine life, which makes for a
fantastic destination. It offers great shore diving, muck diving and spectacular wrecks. In the programme we also explore Bali’s rich culture and land-based activities like white water rafting
and visiting its many temples. Bali is also home to a radical new process called Mineral Accretion where local communities are rebuilding damaged coral reefs by growing coral at up to 10 times its normal rate.
Programme 2. Roatan – Honduras. The clear calm waters of Honduras, great for all divers and being part of the second largest reef
in the world is home to all the known fish species and beautiful corals and sponges known to be in the Caribbean. We talk about courses from one day introductory dives right through to
advanced divers. Roatan has some great wreck diving available and is the cheapest place in the world to dive. We also talk about different things you should look for when purchasing your own set of diving equipment.
Programme 3. Spain. Spain offers easily accessible diving for the whole family with great opportunities for beginner
divers and very economical package deals. We look at the Discover Scuba Diving course for complete novices and the Bubblemakers course designed especially for the kids. As it is one of
Europe’s largest holiday destinations there are many activities for non-divers. You can walk the small winding streets and enjoy a cold beer or in the water you can see many species that are rare to see in other parts of the world like Electric Rays, Seahorses and Octopus.
Programme 4. Thailand. We visit the Phi Phi and Similan Islands in the Andaman Sea. Phi Phi revolves around diving and has become a popular holiday destination since the movie The Beach was filmed
there. It has a large selection of dive shops and is a great place to do your Open Water course. Leopard Sharks can be easily approached and Whale Sharks are often seen. Activities for
non-divers include snorkelling with Sharks, island boat tours, hand feeding wild Monkeys and cliff jumping. For some of the best diving in Thailand we took a Chinese sailing junk to
the Similan Islands and explored one of the top 5 dive destinations in the world.
Programme 5. The Galapagos. The Galapagos is one of the dive meccas of the world. With schools of Hammer Heads and Galapagos Sharks, the largest colony of Green Sea Turtles in the world and Eagle Rays. On
land you can see Sea lions, Iguanas, Albatross and Giant Tortoise. Much of the diving is for advanced divers and it is well worth doing a refresher course before or during your visit. The
Galapagos is one of the most unique locations in the world and is equally exciting both above and below the waves.
Programme 6. Cairns – Australia. Cairns is the best place to see Australia’s Great Barrier Reef and with numerous tours every day
making a perfect holiday destination for the whole family. We learn about the underwater photography course and see marine life such as the Giant Potato Cod at the world famous Cod
Hole. Olive Sea Snakes, beautiful corals, Sharks, Giant Trevalley and 1000's of fluorescent reef fish as far as the eye can see. On land we take a look around Cairns and visit Australia's
leading Aboriginal Park and interact with Australia’s unique native animals like Kangaroos and Koalas.
