THE STORY OF SUKHOI
1 x 82 mins
The Sukhoi story tells the complete history of one of the world’s most famous designers and manufacturers of strike aircraft.
A maverick and genius, Sukhoi founded his Design Bureau in 1938. Through the war years, Sukhoi produced the BB-I short-range bomber, four SU fighters and the ER-2- long-range passenger plane ordered by Stalin specifically for his own use.
1944 began an era of Sukhoi jet fighters – the SU-5, the SU-7 with its completely Soviet designed jet engine, the SU-9 and the SU-10. But to fall from favour in Soviet Russia was not difficult.  Sukhoi was no exception and the Bureau was closed down in 1949. In 1953 Stalin ordered its reinstatement, specifically to design a plane that would counter the American F-86 ‘Sabre’. Of the resulting fighters, the SU-15 remained in service for more than 30 years and was the aircraft responsible for shooting down the KAL 747 in 1983.
With vintage footage that has never been seen in the West, the programme examines closely the development and capabilities of the later Sukhoi aircraft including the SU-24 Fencer, the SU-25 Frogfoot and the SU-27 Flanker.
It concludes with an extraordinary aerial ballet performed by two SU-27’s filmed by a third. Cobras, turns and twists make this one of the most beautiful and awe-inspiring filmed sequences ever seen.
Special DVD feature: SU-37 from the Russian Air Defence Force demonstrates the Super Cobra plus the Ukrainian Air Force demonstrates the SU-27

VULCAN: THE SPIRIT OF WOODFORD
1 x 55 mins
Experience the grace and beauty of this majestic aircraft from its early years to the current 603’s re-built at its birthplace – AVRO, Woodford.  With interviews with ex-crew members, we explore the Vulcan’s pedigree and illustrious career.
The Spirit of Woodford is very much alive.

MiG-29
1 x 61 mins
Arguably the most advanced strike aircraft in the world today, the MiG 29’s manoeuvrability and stability at high angles of attack makes it a formidable weapon. Developed in the sinister days of the cold war, the concept behind the MiG was to design and aircraft specifically for both offensive and defensive roles – a major departure from usual Soviet thinking.
The capabilities of the MiG 29 exceeded the Soviet’s wildest expectations, and even without the electronic sophistication of some of its western counterparts NATO breathed a sigh of relief when détente became a reality.
The film tells the story of the MiG’s evolution, from initial brief to the Mikoyan Design Bureau, through design, development, testing, flight trials and deployment.
This programme includes superb archive footage that has never been seen in the west, original interviews with designers and pilots, plus an exclusive interview with the man responsible for testing the plane to its limits – Leonid Lobos, current chief test pilot of the Confederation of Independent States.
With its attention to technical detail, unique interviews and amazing footage, this programme presents the definitive story of one of the Soviet’s greatest fighters, the MiG 29.
Special DVD extra: Features Mig-29 air displays from the Hungarian, Polish and Ukrainian Air Forces.

HARRIER: THE VERTICAL REALITY
1 x 68 mins
The Harrier – the World’s best selling combat ‘jump jet’.  The reality – almost forty years on after the first development aircraft flew, the harrier is still one jump ahead of its rivals.
This DVD salutes the achievements of the Harrier, in peace and war, over land and sea, through test and research, taking this unique British aircraft design towards the 21st century. We bring you the test pilots who lifted the first RAF Harrier into the air in 1966 and the squadron pilots who flew her in the fiercest of firefights - in the Falklands campaign and, most recently, in Bosnia.
This fast paced, action packed DVD features original and dramatic footage provided by British Aerospace and the Ministry of Defence to link with exclusive videotape taken of No1 (Fighter) Squadron’s spectacular mass display of Harriers at Fairford’s International Air Tattoo ’96, as well as eavesdropping on briefing, kitting out and cockpit checks before a ‘Four Ship’ ground attach sortie from the home of the Harrier at RAF Wittering. Also, recorded for the first time at Boscombe Down Flight Test Centre, we show you the cockpit of the special ‘fly-by’ wire’ Harrier created by the Defence Evaluations & Research Agency to test the new flight control system for the combat ‘jump jets’ of the future – the US/British Joint Strike Fighter.
Special DVD feature: Actor and aviation enthusiast, David Jason, arrives at RIAT in a two-seater Harrier, meets Test Pilot, Bill Bedford, while the Harrier squadron performs a simulated bombing raid.
