Featuring Robert Hardy
Since the creation of the automobile, almost one hundred years ago, man has been obsessed with the desire to go faster. Not just for its own sake, but to achieve total control of the complex geometry, forces and aesthetics, which, in perfect harmony, characterise the classic, sports car.
“The Marque of a Legend” is a unique tribute to the great innovators in sports car design and engineering, who came closest to achieving this perfection, and to their renowned marques and models.

THE MARQUE OF A LEGEND
The Quest for the Ultimate Sports Motorcycle

1 x 56’

Commentary by Ian McShane
‘The Marque of a Legend’ is a tribute to the men and machines who sought to push the limits of technology and performance in the quest for the ultimate racing motorbike.
The programme combines unique archive footage of a number of the bikes racing plus an assessment of the technology and performance characteristics by some of the true legends of the sport, including Geoff Duke, Barry Sheene, Giacomo Agostini and Wayne, who each ride a selection of the definitive models on the open roads.
Among the highlights of the programme is a visit to the late Barry Sheene’s house in Australia where he kept every bike he won the World Championship on, including his Suzuki 125cc on which he achieved his first world title. He takes it out on a ride around the public roads for the first time in decades.
Next we visit Italy to talk to Giacomo Agostini and watch him ride his MV Augusta for the first time in over 40 years. This is followed by a visit to the Isle of Man where we listen to a fascinating discussion between Geoff Duke and Wayne Gardner on the technological development since the hugely successful Manx Featherbed Norton of the 50s which Gardner then rides for the first time.
The story of the Japanese two-stroke domination of the sport culminates in the TZ 500 Yamaha establishing the first pure bred racing bike, a breed apart from the previous road going bikes.
Finally we visit the renaissance of Italian bikes in the 90s with the Cagiva 125 and the Ducati.
Among the racing bikes featured in this DVD are the Bruff Superior , BMW Compressor, Guilara San Remo, Manx Norton, the ground breaking two-strokes from Japanese manufacturers, Suzuki, Honda, Yamaha and from Italy the Ducati and MV Augusta.
